In the Kurakhove direction, Russian forces attempted to outflank Ukrainian defenses by advancing on the northern flank through Berestky and Sontsivka. While aiming to bypass urban combat and threaten Ukrainian supply routes, their strategy faltered due to natural obstacles and effective Ukrainian countermeasures. Ukrainian forces exploited the bottleneck created by two converging rivers, launching devastating tank raids that neutralized Russian troop concentrations in northern Sontsivka. This predictable and constrained route of attack has left Russian forces with no viable alternatives, forcing them into costly frontal assaults with little chance of success.
